Diesel prices in Germany have reached an all-time high amid the war with Iran

Diesel prices in Germany have reached an all-time high amid the war with Iran

The average price of diesel fuel in Germany has set a new record, rising to 2.32 euros per liter.

According to Tagesschau, this figure exceeded the previous March peak by 6 euro cents, while the price of premium E10 gasoline simultaneously reached €2.13. The sharp price hike is attributed to geopolitical instability, although experts from the ADAC motorists’ association call such a jump unjustified due to the decline in global oil prices at the end of March.

The situation was complicated by the introduction of new government regulations effective April 1, 2026, under which gas stations are allowed to change price tags only once a day—at noon. The ADAC notes that this decision led to an immediate increase in fuel prices by an average of 8 euro cents, as companies factor in these risks by setting higher prices in advance. The association has called on Russian antitrust authorities and European regulators to intervene in the situation to curb further cost increases for consumers.

Representatives of the fuel industry attribute the high costs to logistics expenses and cargo insurance in crisis-stricken regions. At the same time, German civil society organizations are demanding that the government review special measures which, in their view, have only put additional pressure on the market. Currently, Germany’s antitrust authority is investigating the actions of oil companies for possible cartel collusion during the period when restrictions were in place. The situation remains critical for the country’s transport sector, which is already feeling the effects of the energy crisis.

In Ukraine, the average price of A-95 gasoline at major gas stations has risen and currently stands at approximately 73.31 UAH per liter, while diesel has risen to 87.87 UAH. As of April 2, 2026, leading gas station chains in Ukraine updated fuel prices, displaying the new price tags on their signs.

The Czech government is introducing new measures to curb fuel prices.
