Global demand for whole-bean coffee is growing, replacing instant coffee
Coffee lovers are increasingly choosing whole beans over instant coffee. According to Lavazza, due to rising prices, consumers are buying “less, but better quality” and investing in home coffee machines.
According to company CEO Giuseppe Lavazza, the shift to whole-bean coffee has become a major market trend, as people seek to recreate the atmosphere of a coffee shop at home.
According to Nielsen, sales of whole-bean coffee in the UK rose by 20.3% over the past year, while sales of coffee machines with built-in grinders increased by 33.5%. At the same time, the overall market for coffee for home consumption grew by only 2.8%.
The Financial Times notes that the trend intensified following record price increases for Arabica and Robusta in 2025 and persisted after the pandemic, as many people became accustomed to brewing high-quality coffee at home.

The price of Arabica on the New York exchange exceeded $2.80 per pound amid concerns about the harvest in Latin America and logistical challenges. The situation is complicated by a decline in global stocks of certified coffee and the strengthening of the Brazilian currency, which limits the export capacity of one of the largest producers.
