Israir plans to launch Tel Aviv–New York flights in September
Israeli airline Israir plans to begin flights between Tel Aviv, Israel, and New York in September after completing preparations to operate two Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft. The first flight from Tel Aviv to New York is scheduled for September 15, with the return flight set for September 17, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Investments and permits
The company was due to open ticket sales for the new route on Monday night. Israir said it completed operational and regulatory preparations for using the Airbus A330 in three and a half months.
On May 27, the carrier made the final payment for the two aircraft. Total investments in their acquisition, service modifications and spare parts amounted to about $85 million.

The company also concluded more than 60 agreements related to the new operation and obtained the required approvals from the Israel Civil Aviation Authority, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA approval, received in August, was the final key regulatory step for operating flights to the United States.
Fleet expansion
For Airbus A330 flights, Israir recruited and trained dedicated crews. At the same time, the carrier continues to operate eight narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft.
The introduction of wide-body airliners will take place gradually to ensure a safe and effective transition in operations, safety and passenger service. In addition to the two A330s that Israir will operate itself, the airline intends to use two more wide-body aircraft under wet lease agreements, including crew and other operational services. In the second half of 2027, the company is preparing to put into service a third wide-body aircraft that it will operate itself.
