Asante Kotoko in Ghana ends decade-long winless run against Heart of Lions
Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko defeated Heart of Lions 2-1 in the second round of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season at Baba Yara Stadium. It was Kotoko's first win of the season. It also ended a run of more than 10 years without victories in matches against the team from Kpando, MyJoyOnline reports.
Kotoko goals
The hosts opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Emmanuel Mamah finished a powerful low cross from Asiedu. Heart of Lions had few scoring opportunities in the first half, but in the 15th minute Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim made a save to prevent the visitors from scoring.
After the break, Asante Kotoko continued to control the game and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute. Isaac Opoku Agyemang scored from close range after a pass from Mamah.

Late penalty
Late in the match, Heart of Lions were awarded a penalty. In the second minute of stoppage time, Francis Odum converted the spot kick, but the visitors were unable to equalize.
In the first round, Kotoko drew 2-2 with Debibi United. After two matches, the team have four points and sit fourth in the table. Heart of Lions, who drew 0-0 in their opening match, have one point and are in 12th place.
