Svitolina's husband, Monfils, has retired and shared a heartfelt message with his wife
French tennis player Gaël Monfils has retired from professional tennis and publicly thanked his wife, Ukraine’s top-ranked player Elina Svitolina, for her many years of support.
This was reported by Suspilne Sport.
The 39-year-old tennis player played his final match at Roland Garros 2026, where he was eliminated in the first round. After the match, the tournament organizers held a farewell ceremony for him.
During his speech, Monfils emotionally addressed Svitolina.
“I want to thank my wife, because without her, I might not be here today. We’ve been together for eight years. I’m not talking about Elina Svitolina as a tennis player, but about Elina as a woman, my wife, who was always there when I had doubts and knew how to cheer me up,” he said.
The tennis player also thanked his wife for their daughter and declared his love for her.
