Yarmolenko apologized for Dynamo's humiliating loss in the UPL
Dynamo Kyiv’s 0–3 loss to UPL newcomer Bukovyna was a serious blow to the team. One of its leaders and veterans had to publicly take responsibility for the poor performance.
36-year-old Andriy Yarmolenko started the match for the second time this season but was substituted after halftime. After the game, the player apologized for the result and noted that the responsibility for the team’s motivation does not lie solely with the head coach.
What Yarmolenko wrote after the Bukovyna–Dynamo match
The most experienced player on Ihor Kostyuk’s team—who is an undisputed authority among fans—posted an apology on his Instagram Stories for the crushing defeat at the hands of Bukovyna, which had just been promoted to the UPL from the First League.
Yarmolenko noted that he was ashamed of the level of play demonstrated and that he takes full responsibility for the result.
“I wasn’t able to get through to my teammates and convey to them just how important this game was for us,
” the player said, pointing to his role as, in effect, a second coach.
He also added that the “white-and-blues” failed to show the character, dedication, and level of play expected of them. Yarmolenko acknowledged that the players let their fans down and apologized once again.

This season of the Ukrainian championship is set to be a historic one for the Dynamo player—he has already tied Serhiy Rebrov for the most goals scored in his entire UPL career, and now he is just one goal away from matching Maksym Shatskikh’s total and two goals away from the all-time record:

- Andriy Yarmolenko – 123
In order to break the record, Yarmolenko even decided to extend his career, even though the previous season was supposed to be his last with the club, after which he was set to take on the role of sporting director.
