China’s Zhang Ziyu helps team win Asian Games bronze — Dawn
In Nagoya, Japan, China’s women’s basketball team won bronze medals at the Asian Games, defeating Taiwan 77:64 in the third-place match. One of the key players was 19-year-old Zhang Ziyu, who stands 223 cm tall.
As Dawn reports, the basketball player scored 14 points. Before the game, she had the highest average scoring rate among China’s national team players. In the match against Taiwan, Zhang caught the ball above her opponents’ heads and sent it into the basket.

Despite her successful performance, Zhang said she still needs to work a lot. According to her, she aims to contribute to the team’s game, train hard and continue learning. The basketball player also noted that she had worked extensively on her agility.

Zhang is already taller than NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. During the women’s world championship in Germany, her play was noted by American basketball player Caitlin Clark, who said she had never played against an athlete of such height.

Mongolia national team basketball player Amari Robinson, who played against Zhang and China in the quarterfinals, said that the Chinese player’s height itself is a separate challenge for opponents. She also highlighted Zhang’s work with her hands and feet.
Philippines national team head coach Javier Alvarez Garcia called Zhang “great” and suggested that she could become one of the world’s best basketball players. China coach Gong Luming noted that she had significantly improved her mobility but still needed to develop further. According to him, height is one of her advantages, and if Zhang can make full use of it, she will be “invincible.”
