Messi provides an assist in Inter Miami’s draw with Atlanta United in the United States
Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi provided an assist in an MLS match against Atlanta United in Miami, United States. The game ended 2:2 and was the Argentine’s first match after ending his appearances for the national team earlier this week.
Goal after a corner
The match started more than 90 minutes late due to heavy rain and lightning. In the 32nd minute, 39-year-old Messi took a corner, after which midfielder Casemiro headed the ball into the goal of Atlanta goalkeeper Lucas Oyos.
Inter Miami’s lead lasted three minutes. Casemiro blocked a cross with a sliding tackle, after which the ball rebounded off Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair to Miguel Almirón. The Atlanta United player equalized.

Draw late in the match
Luis Suárez put Inter Miami ahead again before halftime. However, in the 87th minute, Breel Embolo converted a penalty and secured a draw for Atlanta United.
According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Messi scored four goals and provided one assist in Inter Miami’s 7:1 win over Montreal last weekend. He shares first place in the MLS top scorers’ list this season with 18 goals.
Messi captained the Argentina national team that won the 2022 World Cup and finished second at the 2026 World Cup.
