The International Volleyball Federation has reinstated Belarusian teams to competition
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has decided to allow Belarusian teams in various categories to participate in tournaments under its auspices. The decision marks a partial return of Belarusian national teams to international competition following previous restrictions.
The FIVB justified this decision by citing the position of the IOC. The governing body of the Olympic Movement recently recommended that sports federations lift all restrictions on Belarusian athletes and teams. Consequently, athletes and national teams from Belarus will now be able to compete under their own flag and national anthem.
“In accordance with the previous decision of the FIVB Administrative Council to follow the recommendations of the IOC Executive Board, and in light of the IOC Executive Board’s recent decision to no longer recommend any restrictions on the participation of Belarusian athletes, including teams, in competitions under the auspices of international federations, Belarusian athletes and teams are permitted to immediately resume participation in international volleyball competitions,” the statement reads.
Belarusian national teams will soon return to the volleyball rankings. The FIVB has become the latest federation to lift restrictions on Belarusian athletes. Previously, the International Modern Pentathlon Union and World Boxing took similar steps.
