Moyes complains about Everton’s thin squad after transfer window
Everton head coach David Moyes said the team have a very thin squad after the transfer window. According to him, the club lost several important players, while an attempt to sign Monaco’s American forward Folarin Balogun on the final day of the window failed after a medical examination.
Disappointment with the transfer campaign
As reported by Asharq Al-Awsat, Moyes expressed disappointment with the club’s summer transfer campaign. He noted that he understands the squad size required to compete in the Premier League, but some circumstances did not work in Everton’s favour.
The coach said the club did not want to lose Senegalese forward Iliman Ndiaye. Moyes added that it is difficult for Everton to keep players when bigger clubs, including Manchester City, are interested in them.
According to the coach, the team did not plan to let many players leave, but this happened for various reasons. Moyes said Everton would move forward despite the unsuccessful outcome of the transfer window.

Balogun’s failed transfer
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro said that late on the final day of the transfer window, Everton raised concerns about Balogun’s medical examination results. According to him, the United States international refused the move because he felt uncomfortable with the Merseyside club’s doubts about his health.
Moyes denied that other reasons were behind the collapse of the deal. He noted that such situations often occur in football and that the issue arose during the player’s medical examination.
An opportunity for academy graduates
After the transfer window closed, Everton’s Fans’ Forum criticised the club’s planning and recruitment work. Forum representatives said supporters deserve an explanation after another window marked by late activity and unsuccessful attempts to sign key players.
Moyes acknowledged that academy graduates will probably have to join the first team. At the same time, he is not sure whether they are ready to immediately fill the existing gaps in the squad.
