In Australia, Panthers and Warriors to contest top spot in NRL regular season
In Australia, the match between the Penrith Panthers and the Wests Tigers will determine whether the club can overtake the New Zealand Warriors in the race for first place in the National Rugby League (NRL) regular season. The Warriors currently have 42 competition points, while the Panthers have 40. A Panthers victory would allow them to draw level with the leaders on points.
As ABC News Australia reports, the Warriors took sole possession of first place after defeating Manly in Auckland on Saturday. The final outcome of the race for first position will depend on the Panthers' Sunday match against the Wests Tigers at Western Sydney Stadium.
Conditions for the Warriors
The New Zealand club will win the regular season if the Panthers do not beat the Tigers. The Warriors will also retain first place if the Panthers win by only one point.
The Warriors' points differential is +310, while the Panthers' is +308. If Penrith win by one point, this figure will rise to +309, so first place will remain with the Warriors.

What the Panthers need
The Panthers must beat the Wests Tigers by at least two points. With that result, the team will draw level with the Warriors on competition points and surpass their opponents on points differential.
If both indicators are identical, the NRL will apply an additional criterion: points scored will be divided by points conceded and multiplied by 100. In this scenario, the Panthers, who have conceded fewer points this season, will finish higher.
First week of the finals series
Both clubs have already secured places in the top two and the right to host two finals matches. The team that finishes first will host the fourth-placed Sydney Roosters in the opening round, while the second team will play at home against the third-placed Dolphins. The NRL will announce match dates and times after all Round 27 games are completed.
