Nigeria’s Rivers United and Shooting Stars eliminated from CAF tournaments
In Nigeria, football clubs Rivers United and Shooting Stars have ended their campaigns in the qualifiers for African club tournaments, while El-Kanemi Warriors advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. Premium Times Nigeria reports on the match results.
El-Kanemi to face Raja Casablanca
El-Kanemi Warriors lost 0:1 to Guinea-Bissau’s UDIB in Bissau but progressed thanks to a 3:0 victory in the first match. The aggregate score of the two-legged tie was 3:1 in favour of the club from Maiduguri.
In the next round, El-Kanemi will face Morocco’s Raja Casablanca. The first match is scheduled at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne between the 16th and 18th, while the return match in Casablanca will take place from 23 to 25 October. The winner of the tie will advance to the group stage of the Confederation Cup.

Defeats for Rivers United and Shooting Stars
Shooting Stars lost 0:2 to CS Sfaxien in Tunisia. The Nigerian club held a 1:0 advantage after the first match in Abeokuta but was eliminated 1:2 on aggregate. For Shooting Stars, this was their first appearance in continental competition in more than two decades.
Rivers United drew 2:2 with Ivorian side San Pedro in Uyo in the CAF Champions League. The team managed by Finidi George was two goals behind but equalised. Following a 1:1 draw in the first match, the aggregate score was 3:3, with San Pedro progressing on the away-goals rule.
Another Nigerian representative in the Champions League, Rangers International, on Friday defeated Benin’s Sobemap FC 5:4 in a penalty shootout after a 2:2 aggregate draw. In the second preliminary round, Rangers will face Algeria’s MC Alger.
