Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawa set a historic record at the London Marathon, completing the course in 1:59:30.
He became the first athlete to run a marathon (42 km 195 m) in under two hours in an official open race.
Second place went to Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha, who also finished in under two hours with a time of 1:59.41.
Previously, Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge had achieved a similar result, running the distance in 1:59.40 in Vienna in 2019 as part of a special project. However, that race was not official, so the result was not recognized as a world record.
