Oleksandr Khizhnyak will fight for the title in Lviv

Olympic boxing champion Oleksandr Khyzhniak will fight his next bout on August 22 at the Usyk 17 Promotions professional boxing event, which will take place at !FESTrepublic in Lviv.

For Khizhnyak, this will be his first title fight in his professional career. The organizers will announce his opponent and the title he will be fighting for at a later date.

The announcement notes that Lviv holds a special place in Oleksandr Usyk’s career as well, since it was here in 2014 that he won his first professional title—the WBO Inter-Continental cruiserweight belt.

The co-main event of the evening will be headlined by Pavlo Ilyusha. Nine boxers from Usyk 17 Promotions will also feature on the undercard.

Oleksandr Khyzhniak is the 2024 Paris Olympic champion, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, and an amateur world and European champion.

Earlier, Elina Svitolina advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tough match, the Ukrainian defeated Spain’s Jessica Buzas Maneiro 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. The match lasted nearly three hours, and Svitolina clinched the victory after three tense sets.

Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Washington. In the round of 16, she defeated Polina Kudermetova, who previously represented Russia and now plays for Uzbekistan. Following this victory, the Ukrainian continues her quest for the title on American courts.
