Oliynikova kicks off her Roland Garros campaign with a resounding victory

Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandra Oliinykova got off to a strong start at Roland Garros and advanced to the second round without any trouble, defeating her opponent in two sets. The match was one-sided, and the Ukrainian set the pace from the very first games, a pace the Russian was never able to break.

For Oleksandra Oliinykova, this match was special not only because of the victory but also because of her debut in the main draw of Roland Garros, where she immediately showed that she had come not just to “test her skills” but to play for results. The Ukrainian confidently controlled the flow of the match, played quickly and aggressively, and forced her opponent to make constant mistakes under pressure.

Her opponent was the “neutral” Elena Pridankina, and from the very first games, it became clear that this would not be an easy match for her. Oliynikova took the first set practically without a fight, conceding only one game, and even a lengthy rally of 18 shots did not change the overall picture of the match.

The second set saw a bit more competition, but the script remained the same: the Ukrainian consistently held her serve and quickly found her opponent’s weaknesses. In the set’s eight games, she confidently defended her serve twice and ultimately sealed the deal with a break, closing out the match with a score of 6-2. The statistics only underscored the Ukrainian’s dominance: 19 winners to her opponent’s 14, as well as a better error margin, despite Oliinykova committing five double faults on her serve. Overall, her play appeared more composed, bold, and mature for the level of the tournament.

With this victory, the Ukrainian won her first-ever Grand Slam match and did so at one of the season’s most prestigious tournaments. A serious test awaits her next: a match against the winner of the Jessica Pegula (USA) vs. Kimberly Birrell (Australia) match.

Oliinykova has become the fifth Ukrainian tennis player to reach the second round of Roland Garros this season, and this result is already being called one of the best in the history of Ukraine’s performances at the Paris major.
