Wimbledon organizers are introducing a video review system and new scoreboards
At Wimbledon 2026, players will for the first time be able to challenge difficult calls using video replays.
According to the tournament’s official website, players will be able to request reviews of plays involving a double bounce, contact with an opponent’s body or racket, as well as instances of obstruction during play. A key feature of this innovation is the unlimited number of such requests available to players, which is intended to minimize the human factor’s influence on match outcomes.
In addition to video replays, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club will update its display system for fans. Special visual markers will appear on the scoreboard to complement the audio signals from the automatic out-call system. This solution will help spectators better follow the action, especially amid the noise in the stands. The tournament will take place from June 29 to July 12 on the traditional grass courts in London.
New features at Wimbledon 2026:
Introduction of Video Review (VR) for disputed calls (double bounce, touching the net, etc.).
Unlimited video challenges per player.
Visual “In/Out” indicators on electronic scoreboards for the convenience of spectators.
Full use of the automated line-calling system, which replaced line judges last year.
These steps are part of the global digitization of tennis, where technology is gradually replacing traditional officiating methods to ensure maximum fairness. While Russia remains under sanctions in many sports federations, leading global tournaments continue to evolve, attracting new investments in infrastructure and media technology. Wimbledon 2026 promises to be the most technologically advanced in the tournament’s history.
As a reminder, Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000.
Also, Novak Djokovic lost to Jack Draper in the round of 16 at Indian Wells.
