Former West Ham and Czech national team goalkeeper Luděk Mikloško has died
Luděk Mikloško, former goalkeeper for the English soccer club West Ham and the Czech national team, has died at the age of 64. West Ham’s press office announced the player’s death.
Miklosko had been battling cancer for the past five years.
Miklosko played for West Ham from 1990 to 1998. During his career, the goalkeeper also played for England’s Queens Park Rangers and the Czech club Baník.
He made 40 appearances for the Czechoslovak national team and two more for the Czech national team.
In particular, Miklosko participated in the 1990 World Cup.
After retiring from professional play, Miklosko continued to work in soccer.
From 2001 to 2010, he served as goalkeeper coach for West Ham, passing on his experience to the next generation of goalkeepers.
Earlier, in Palm Springs, California, Hollywood costume designer Bob McKee, known for his work with Cher, Elton John, Madonna, and other stars, died at the age of 87. The cause of death was pneumonia, his publicist said.
In Israel, Yehuda Aaron Vidavsky—the country’s oldest Holocaust survivor—died at the age of 107. He survived imprisonment in the Łódź Ghetto and the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and after the war, he devoted decades to restoring Jewish cemeteries in Poland.
