Svitolina will face Kyustuk in the Roland Garros quarterfinals

Ukraine's top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina (7), secured a hard-fought victory over Switzerland's Belinda Bencic in a tense Round of 16 match at the French Open. She will now face fellow Ukrainian player Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals.

This was reported on the tournament’s official website.

The match between the two highest-ranked mothers on the modern tour lasted 2 hours and 4 minutes and ended with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in favor of the Odessa native. Thanks to this victory, fans will witness an all-Ukrainian quarterfinal at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in history.

The start of the match proved difficult for the Ukrainian athlete: after an even start at 2-2 in the set, Svitolina experienced a slight slump. Bencic seized the moment, converted two break points, and pulled ahead—2-5. Elina managed to bring some excitement back into the match by closing the gap, but at the decisive moment, she squandered two break points and lost the first set 4-6. However, in the second set, Ukraine’s top-ranked player significantly increased her aggression and confidence. She took a 3-1 lead, later extended her advantage to 5-2, and, despite losing her own serve, managed to close out the set on her return—6-4.

The turning point of the entire match came in the opening game of the final set, where Svitolina had to fend off a double break point (15-40) on her serve. After saving that game, the Ukrainian found her rhythm and played flawless tennis, finding sharp returns even from the most difficult positions on the court. The Swiss player couldn’t handle the psychological pressure and simply fell apart, failing to win a single game in the decisive set—6-0. Match statistics showed Svitolina with 3 aces, 1 double fault, and 6 break points converted, while Bencic had 2 aces, 4 unforced errors on her serve, and 3 break points.

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open, defeating world No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland in the fourth round of the women’s singles with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Ukraine’s No. 2 player extended her winning streak on clay courts to 16 consecutive matches

Earlier, Marta Kostyuk advanced to the round of 16 at Roland Garros.

Former Russian player Putintseva was eliminated from Roland Garros.
