Video: Oliynikova delivered a special address after the match at Roland Garros
Before the start of her final press conference at the 2026 French Open, Oleksandra Oliinykova read a special statement following her match against a tennis player linked to Vladimir Putin.

“I know that some people disagree with my actions. I know that some people would prefer that I remain silent. But what I am doing is not about politics; it is about humanity.
When people are being killed, when children are dying, when violence is being justified or glorified, we cannot pretend that nothing is happening. We cannot look away. We cannot defend those who support or justify such actions.
Our organization was founded by pioneers like Billie Jean King, not so that money and luxury would become the only values in women’s tennis. They wanted something more. They wanted us to have a voice, to inspire others to make the world a better place, to be role models for young athletes.
Being a role model isn’t about the size of your bank account. It isn’t about expensive watches, private jets, or luxury brands. A true role model is someone who has the courage to stand up against evil. A true role model speaks up when it’s easier to stay silent. A true role model has the resolve to act when action is needed.
As players, we bear a responsibility that goes beyond tennis, because sport must always stand on the side of humanity. And humanity should not be a matter of choice. Thank you,” Oliynikova said.
