Coach Ouaddou threatens to leave Orlando Pirates over showboating
In Soweto, South Africa, Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou said he could leave the team if the players continue to showboat instead of trying to score more goals. His comments came after Pirates’ 3-1 victory over Mauritian side La Cure Waves in the return leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Discontent with the second half
Despite Orlando Pirates advancing to the second preliminary round, Ouaddou remained dissatisfied with the team’s actions after the break. In his assessment, the team lowered its tempo in the second half, although it had more possession. The coach believes Pirates could have scored another three or four goals.
Ouaddou linked the drop in intensity to the players’ insufficiently serious attitude and showboating on the pitch. As TimesLIVE reports, the coach stressed that the team must focus on attacking and scoring goals if it wants to go far in the tournament.

Champions League ambitions
The coach said Orlando Pirates does not hide its ambitions to win the CAF Champions League. In his view, showboating does not help the team and serves only the ego of the player who resorts to it. Ouaddou noted that he cannot be satisfied with a 3-1 victory if the players consider such a result sufficient.
He also warned that he is not ready to tolerate this style of play: if the players continue to act this way, he will not remain the team’s coach.
