Arab Sailing Championship races continue in Jeddah — Asharq Al-Awsat
Races in the Optimist class of the Arab Sailing Championship continued on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The competition is being held at the Jeddah Sailing Center, and after seven races, Jean-Luc Soares Herve leads the overall standings.
Standings leaders
Tong Xuan Ya of the Saudi Optimist team is in second place, while Saudi sailor Ahmad Al-Shammari is third. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, participants are competing for high positions in the overall standings and Arab titles.

Contenders for Arab titles
Under the championship regulations, only sailors from Arab countries may contend for the male and female Arab champion titles. Al-Shammari, who competes in the under-12 age category, leads the standings among participants eligible to compete for the Arab champion title.
Egyptian sailor Laila Abdelazim, who is sixth in the overall standings, leads the contenders for the Arab female champion title. Four female sailors are among the top 10 in the overall standings. The championship is organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation, and the competition is scheduled to conclude on Monday.
