The Dutch fighter continues to comment on the outcome of the bout. Rico Verhoeven stated that during his fight against Oleksandr Usyk, he noticed another refereeing decision that he considers controversial. The fighter emphasized that he still does not agree with the result of the bout.
Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven found yet another strange decision by the referee in his lost bout against Oleksandr Usyk.
“It seemed very strange to me: he sent my opponent to the corner after the knockdown, looked at me, and started the count not from 1, but from 4. I’m supposed to get a full count—why did he start right away from 4? And another thing: the opponent is usually supposed to stay in his corner, but he was standing in the center of the ring and was ready to attack again right away,” Verhoeven said, as quoted by vandaaginside.nl.
As a reminder, the fight between Usyk and Verhoeven ended in a technical knockout at the very end of the 11th round.
According to Verhoeven, in the 11th round, the referee mistakenly stopped the fight and awarded Usyk the victory by technical knockout. A few seconds later, there was supposed to be a break before the final three-minute round. Prior to that, the kickboxer had been knocked down.
