The German national team has released its roster for the 2026 World Cup
Julian Nagelsmann has announced the German national team’s roster for the 2026 World Cup. The biggest news is the return of Manuel Neuer, who had retired from the national team after Euro 2024 but will now play for the national team again, according to the team’s press office.
The German national team has officially finalized its roster for the 2026 World Cup, and the return of legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer immediately drew the most attention from fans.
Bundesteam head coach Julian Nagelsmann included the Bayern Munich goalkeeper in the team’s final roster, even though it seemed after Euro 2024 that Neuer’s career with the national team was over. He will now be the only 2014 World Cup champion on Germany’s current roster. “Manuel brings experience and composure to the team in crucial moments,” German media noted following the announcement of the roster.
The coaching staff immediately finalized the roster without first announcing an expanded squad. Three goalkeepers, seven defenders, ten midfielders, and six forwards will travel to the tournament.
As usual, the core of the team consists of players from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and English Premier League clubs. The presence of young leaders—Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz—is also drawing particular attention; in Germany, they are already being called the new face of the national team. In attack, Nagelsmann has relied on Kai Havertz, Leroy Sané, Deniz Undo, and Maximilian Bayer, while Antonio Rüdiger and Jonathan Tah remain key defenders.
In the group stage of the World Cup, Germany will face Curaçao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador. The team will play its first match in Houston, followed by games in Toronto and East Rutherford.
In Germany, this squad is already being called a blend of experience and a new generation, one that is expected to bring the team back into contention for the top spots after several unsuccessful major tournaments.
