Amazon unveils Fire TV Stick 4K powered via TV USB — The Verge

Amazon has unveiled a new Fire TV Stick 4K media device that can be powered through a television's USB port without a separate adapter. The device is already available for $59.99, The Verge reports.

The new Fire TV Stick 4K runs on Amazon's updated operating system for televisions and supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy. The company previously released an updated basic version of the Fire TV Stick, which can also be powered from a television's USB port.

Amazon has also reduced its lineup of streaming devices from five to four models: Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube. The new Fire TV Stick 4K model replaces the previous 4K Select and Plus versions.

New remote and Alexa updates

Along with the media device, Amazon is launching an updated Fire TV Remote with an asymmetrical shape and more tactile controls. It is compatible with all Amazon Ember televisions and Fire TV streaming devices released since 2019. Separately, the remote will cost $14.99, and shipments are expected to begin in late October.

At the beginning of next year, Amazon plans to release a Plus version in an aluminum body, with backlit buttons and a remote-finding feature. Fire TV will also receive an Alexa Plus Hub and Alexa Plus integration in the Fire TV mobile app. According to Amazon, its AI will take into account the context of real events and awards to answer more complex queries about movie and series recommendations. Later this fall, the company also plans to launch a new Amazon Music app for Fire TV with Alexa Plus integration for music and podcast recommendations.
