WhatsApp introduces parental controls for teen accounts — TechCrunch

WhatsApp is introducing new parental control tools for teen accounts that will allow guardians to configure teens’ interactions with other users and content settings in Meta AI chats. TechCrunch reports.

Contact and group settings

Parents or guardians will be able to restrict the use of channels, determine whose Status updates a teen will see, as well as who will have access to their Status updates. They will also be able to set who can add the teen to groups and who will see their profile photo.

Guardians will be able to receive notifications when a teen joins or leaves a new group. It will also be possible to configure notifications when a group’s number of members increases to 30, 100, or 250 people.

More current news is available on the UA.News Telegram channel Telegram.

PIN code and Meta AI settings

All settings will be protected by a PIN code set by parents. To change the settings, a teen will need their approval. At the same time, guardians can completely disable these controls.

Parents will also be able to choose content settings for Meta AI: the standard 13+ mode or the stricter Limited Content mode. The latter disables features based on private processing, including incognito mode in chat and message summarization.

WhatsApp said that messages and calls in the app will continue to be protected by end-to-end encryption, so no one will be able to view their content.
