Asha Sharma says Microsoft does not plan to sell Xbox — The Verge

Xbox chief Asha Sharma said that Microsoft does not plan to sell its gaming business. She said this in an interview with The New York Times, The Verge reports.

According to Sharma, Xbox is not for sale. She noted that the company is prepared to do whatever is necessary for the division to operate successfully, as well as consider appropriate partnerships, an operating model, and other necessary steps.

Xbox restructuring

In June, The Information reported that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood were considering the possibility of spinning off Xbox into a separate entity. At the same time, in early September, the publication wrote that both executives supported Sharma's plan for a major reorganization of the division.

Sharma announced the Xbox restructuring in June and called it a reboot of the division. Microsoft plans to cut up to 3,200 Xbox employees during the 2027 fiscal year, which ends in June.

Changes in the gaming division

Nadella also supported the restructuring and layoffs in a recent episode of the Sources podcast. According to him, the team needs to optimize its work and find a sustainable business model that will make it possible to offer games to an ever-growing number of people.

As part of the latest reorganization, the Halo franchise moved under Activision's management. The changes also affected the developers of Sea of Thieves and Age of Empires.
