Anthropic plans to lease Nscale capacity for $45 billion

Anthropic plans to spend $45 billion to lease cloud computing capacity for artificial intelligence at Nscale's data center campus in West Virginia, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing a person familiar with the deal.

Six-year agreement

According to the source, the agreement is expected to run for six years and cover about 460 megawatts of power capacity. Nscale, a cloud infrastructure provider, plans to deploy new Nvidia Vera Rubin chips to meet Anthropic's computing needs.

The startup is seeking additional capacity amid expected growth in demand for its products, including the AI-based programming tool Claude Code. Anthropic declined to comment on the information about the agreement.

Search for additional capacity

In May, Anthropic also agreed to lease all of the computing capacity of SpaceX's Colossus 1 complex in Memphis. According to the source, the facility has more than 220,000 Nvidia processors and 300 megawatts of new capacity.

Bloomberg News previously reported on a possible new agreement between Anthropic and Nscale.
