Capcom plans to speed up game development with AI — Engadget
Capcom plans to use artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency of video game development as part of an update to its proprietary RE Engine. As Engadget reports, the company unveiled a major engine update project called REX. In the future, RE Engine is expected to become an engine for the AI generation.
AI for workflows
Capcom programmer Satoshi Ishida explained at the company’s conference that the use of AI is primarily intended to simplify and speed up workflows. According to him, modern games and their assets have become significantly larger in scale, which has increased development time.

Capcom’s statements indicate that the company views AI as a tool for optimizing production rather than creating finished game assets. Earlier, during a question-and-answer session at a shareholders’ meeting, Capcom said it would explore the possibilities of using AI to assist with graphics, sound, and programming.
Position on generated content
At the same time, the company directly stated that it would not use content created by artificial intelligence in its games. According to Engadget’s assessment, this approach is consistent with Capcom’s intention to give new life to some older franchises following the success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
