Charles III urges tech leaders to control AI risks — Global News Canada
King Charles III of the United Kingdom called on leaders of technology companies to ensure that artificial intelligence remains under control and serves people and the planet. The meeting at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, was convened to discuss how AI can benefit society, Global News Canada reports.

The event was attended by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google DeepMind head Demis Hassabis, OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar, and UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan. According to Buckingham Palace, a representative of Anthropic was also expected at the meeting.
In his opening speech, the king said that the development of AI — both in its nature and pace — provokes equal interest and deep concern. He stressed the urgent need to consider the existential dangers of such technologies falling into the wrong hands and being used in potentially catastrophic ways.

Security and international cooperation
Charles III invited participants to identify fundamental principles that should guide the development of AI. He also raised the question of how to use the technology's benefits while placing safety at the center of decisions, and how to build international cooperation and consensus without leaving any country aside.
The event took place at the headquarters of the monarch's charity, The King’s Foundation. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei suggested in his essay that the industry may need to slow the pace of AI work. Among his proposals was coordination between companies and governments on such a slowdown.
A day earlier, OpenAI reported six cases of unexpected or concerning behavior by its models. These included ignoring ordinary restrictions, downloading a file without the user's permission, and fabricating data. UK First Secretary of State Louise Haigh said that the authorities have a duty to reduce AI risks to national security and society.
