Honor unveils Magic 9 Pro Max in China with an 8,800mAh battery — The Verge

Honor has unveiled the flagship Magic 9 Pro Max smartphone in China, featuring an updated camera-module design, an 8,800mAh battery, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The Verge reports that this is the company’s first flagship following the announcement of its partnership with cinema camera maker Arri.

Camera module design

The design of the new camera module is inspired by the three-lens turret first used in the Arriflex 35 camera in 1937. A ribbed texture surrounds the main module.

According to Honor, the wider camera module made it possible to use the device’s internal space more efficiently and accommodate a larger battery. The battery has a capacity of 8,800mAh and contains up to 40% silicon. The model is also available in moss green, black, and silver.

Cameras and Arri features

The main camera has a resolution of 200MP and a 1/1.28-inch-type sensor. The telephoto module with 3.5x zoom also features a 200MP 1/1.4-inch-type sensor. The ultra-wide camera has a resolution of 50MP, although not all Arri Cinema Mode features are available for it.

The partnership with Arri includes the ability to record video in the Arri LogC3 profile, 14 preinstalled Arri Look LUT profiles, access to a broader library of official and third-party LUTs, as well as support for the APV 10-bit 4:2:2 codec. For video recording, the smartphone is equipped with a directional microphone that Honor calls a cinema-grade microphone.

The front camera supports a square frame format and can shoot in both horizontal and vertical orientations.
