How artificial intelligence is reshaping the workday: more tasks but no less fatigue

Researchers spent eight months in a tech company observing how employees used artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily work. They initially hypothesized that AI would save time, boost efficiency, and reduce fatigue, but the outcomes turned out quite different.

The study involving 200 employees and over 40 interviews with engineers, designers, managers, and operations staff revealed that AI accelerated workflows but led people to take on more tasks and projects. Employees used AI even during lunch breaks, before meetings, and late at night, minimizing downtime. However, this caused overload, loss of accuracy, and difficulty disconnecting.

Therefore, while AI enhances productivity, it also poses challenges to work-life balance, highlighting the need for further research into preventing burnout and promoting employee well-being.
