OpenAI CEO Brad Lightcap is leaving the company after eight years
Brad Lightcap, a long-time member of OpenAI’s leadership team, announced on the social media platform X that he is leaving the company after eight years. CNBC reported this on August 11, 2026.
Until April, Lightcap had served as OpenAI’s chief operating officer. In April, he was given a new role focused on special projects, the publication reported.
During this leadership transition, OpenAI stated that Denise Dresser, the company’s Chief Revenue Officer, would assume most of Lightcap’s responsibilities.

On June 20, 2023, Lightcap attended the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France. In a Reuters caption accompanying a photo published by CNBC, he is listed as OpenAI’s chief operating officer.
