Meta is rolling out the AI app Pocket for game development in the U.S.

Meta has begun rolling out the experimental Pocket app to all users in the U.S. It allows users to create small interactive games using AI prompts, and the finished projects are posted to the feed, according to TechCrunch. Last month, the app was launched without much fanfare in the Brazilian test market.

Games in Pocket are called “gizmos.” They can respond to touches and the tilt of a smartphone, play sound effects, and include snippets of the user’s favorite songs. These games can also use photos from the device’s gallery or access the camera.

Users can share the games they create on their profiles. Other users can save them, turn them into their own creations, or simply share them. Pocket was created based on the acqui-hire of the Gizmo game development platform team, which Meta completed earlier this year.

Pocket is yet another example of Meta’s efforts to make AI-powered content creation tools mainstream. Previously, the company introduced image generation in the Meta AI app and the experimental Vibes app for creating videos using AI.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, developing AI-powered software helps the company test and launch new ideas more quickly. During a July earnings call, he mentioned the launch of Instagram Instants, the standalone Forum app for groups, and the Seller app for Marketplace. Other recent Meta experiments include an app featuring AI-generated bedtime stories and the Meta AI app for Mac, unveiled this week.
