Peak XV raises seed investment limit to $5 million — TechCrunch
Venture firm Peak XV Partners has increased the maximum investment in a single startup through its Surge seed platform from $3 million to $5 million. Surge 12, which includes 18 companies, became the first cohort to operate under the new limit. As TechCrunch reports, Peak XV invested more than $50 million in this cohort, while the startups collectively raised more than $90 million in seed funding.
Global markets and Series A
Peak XV Managing Director Rajan Anandan said that raising a Series A round has become significantly more difficult. According to him, the fund is also seeing more capital-intensive companies, particularly in deeptech, raising larger rounds already at the seed stage.
Only five of the 18 Surge 12 startups are focused on the Indian market, although more than half of the companies are based in India. The remaining 13 startups target global markets. The founders and companies in the new cohort are represented in cities ranging from San Francisco to Sydney.
The Surge platform was launched in 2019, when Peak XV operated under the name Sequoia Capital India and Southeast Asia. Since then, it has supported more than 180 startups founded by entrepreneurs of more than 18 nationalities. According to Peak XV, the 10 largest companies from Surge cohorts collectively generate more than $1 billion in annual revenue.
