Short film about a robotaxi chase planned in San Francisco
In San Francisco, director Romain Thomassen plans to make the short film Road Rage about a confrontation between a driver and an autonomous car. As The Verge reports, the creators intend to raise $40,000 for the film’s production through Kickstarter.
Film plot
According to Thomassen’s synopsis, a ride-hailing driver named Joa drives a car with a manual transmission. An autonomous Roboride car lightly clips his car’s mirror, after which Joa makes an obscene gesture at it. In the film’s plot, Roboride takes the incident personally and decides to kill the driver.
Thomassen described the film’s concept as a contrast between the analog and the artificial. According to him, Joa is defined by instincts and authenticity; in one scene, the protagonist unexpectedly talks to his passengers.

Roboride’s appearance
The role of the autonomous car is to be played by an old Prius modified for filming. The vehicle is planned to be equipped with cold LED lights at the front, decorative cameras, a roof-mounted device imitating lidar, a black body, and a flashing red dot.
The creators want to film the chase with real cars, actors, and stunt work. The director aims to combine the gloomy aesthetics of 1970s car chases with modern robotaxis and San Francisco.
