July 12 may become a day to honor those missing as a result of Russia's attack on Ukraine
On Friday, September 28, a draft resolution was registered in the Verkhovna Rada proposing the establishment of a Day of Defenders of Ukraine to honor members of volunteer units as well as civilians who went missing as a result of the Russian Federation’s attack.
According to information on the parliament’s website, the initiators of the document include, in particular, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Korniienko, and People’s Deputies Oleksandr Fedienko (Servant of the People faction), Yaroslav Yurchyshyn (the “Voice” faction), and Tamila Tasheva (the “Voice” party).
As of Friday, September 18, the text of the draft resolution was not available on the parliament’s website.
As People’s Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn told the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, a day to honor those missing as a result of Russian aggression is planned to be observed on International Day of Hope—July 12.
He added that on July 12, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada adopted Framework Law No. 2505-VIII “On the Legal Status of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances.”
As a reminder, July 31 marks International Lifeguard Appreciation Day—an event dedicated to those who ensure the safety of visitors to swimming pools, beaches, and other bodies of water every day.
July 29 is observed in Ukraine as the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Soldiers of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A draft resolution has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada to establish a new commemorative day—the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Luhansk Airport. It is proposed that this date be observed annually on August 31, symbolizing the end of the 146-day heroic defensive operation in 2014.
