Vučić announced the launch of a high-speed rail line to western Ukraine
On September 18, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced the opening of a high-speed rail route between Belgrade and Budapest, which will eventually make travel to the western regions of Ukraine more convenient. The Serbian leader made this announcement during the Carpathian Summit in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Vucic stated that the high-speed rail line between Belgrade and Budapest is set to begin operations soon. According to him, the new route will allow for faster travel to Bratislava, Vienna, Uzhhorod, and other cities in western Ukraine.
“We will soon open a high-speed railway line to Budapest. It will be much easier to travel to Bratislava, Vienna, Uzhhorod, and other cities in western Ukraine, in the Carpathian region. The same applies to Poland,” said the Serbian president.
Vučić also stated that Serbia is interested in developing transportation links with Ukraine and Romania. This includes, in particular, rail and road routes and the simplification of border crossings. According to the Serbian president, the development of transportation links should strengthen the interconnectedness of countries in the Carpathian region.
As a reminder, on September 18, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić arrived in Ukraine to participate in the inaugural summit of the “Carpathian Eight,” which is taking place in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The Serbian leader outlined the areas in which Belgrade is ready to cooperate with other participants in the new regional format.
The inaugural summit of the new C8 regional format—the “Carpathian Eight”—began in Ukraine on September 18. The initiative brings together Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Austria, and Serbia. The summit is taking place in Bukovel, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, and will last until September 20.
Earlier, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš expressed support for Ukraine during a speech at the Prague Defense Summit. The head of the Czech government agreed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s view that ballistic missiles pose the greatest threat to European security, which requires the development of a joint European system to counter them.
