A GRU agent was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to derail a Ukrzaliznytsia train
A court has sentenced a Russian military intelligence agent who attempted to derail a freight train to 15 years in prison and ordered the confiscation of his property.
This was reported by the SBU.
According to the investigation, the suspect was apprehended in May 2025 in the Kyiv region. He had manufactured homemade devices intended to cause a railway accident.
The agent turned out to be a resident of the Chernihiv region who worked as an elevator repair technician in Kyiv. He was recruited after posting pro-Kremlin comments on Telegram.
Following instructions from a handler in Russia, the man prepared a sabotage operation to disrupt the logistics of the Defense Forces. He built the devices in his garage and then hid them near the planned crime scene.
He later installed them on the railroad tracks, but SBU officers documented the agent’s actions, defused the devices in time, and detained him.
During searches, his phone, which he used to communicate with his handler, was seized.
The court found him guilty of sabotage committed by prior conspiracy under martial law.
A Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier who directed Russian strikes on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region has been convicted.
As a reminder, the SBU detained a spotter for Russian strikes on Chernivtsi.
The SBU also exposed a Russian spy network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
