A graduate student won a lawsuit seeking compensation for an unlawful investigation by the TCC

The Chechelivsky District Court of Dnipro ordered the regional recruitment center to pay 2,000 UAH in compensation for emotional distress to a graduate student who had been unlawfully placed on the wanted list despite having a valid deferment from mobilization.

The man was enrolled in a graduate program and was legally entitled to a deferment. In December 2024, he learned that he was wanted, allegedly for failing to appear in response to a summons. Subsequently, the administrative court determined that there was no evidence that the summons had been properly served; therefore, it ruled that the Territorial Recruitment Center’s actions were unlawful and ordered the removal of the wanted notice.

The plaintiff stated that, due to the unlawful wanted status, he constantly feared arrest, avoided crowded places, discontinued his graduate studies, and was forced to seek psychiatric help. He requested that the TCC be ordered to pay 75,000 UAH in compensation for emotional distress.

The court agreed that the man’s rights had been violated but found the amount claimed to be excessive and awarded 2,000 UAH in compensation.
