Berezovskaya's relatives explained why she returned to Ukraine

Relatives of Anastasia Berezovskaya, who was suspected of attempting to assassinate businessman Vadim Yermolayev in Monaco, stated that she returned to Ukraine because she wanted to see her seven-year-old son.

Berezovskaya’s son had been living with her in Germany, but before the start of the school year, the boy went to stay with his grandmother in the Zhytomyr region.

“When she returned home, she said she missed her son and Ukraine,” a relative said.

She also noted that Anastasia Berezovska left for Germany after Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022, while her husband remained in Ukraine. While abroad, she took German language courses, received social assistance, and did not have an official job.

According to her aunt, the family was unaware of Berezovska’s possible involvement in the explosion in Monaco. They only learned about it from reports in the media and on social media.

Krasnopiorova said that Berezovska was originally from the village of Gorodishche in the Novoguyvynska community of Zhytomyr Oblast. The relative is convinced that her niece may have been manipulated or coerced into carrying out certain actions.

“I believe she was framed. She loved her son very much and would never have harmed him. Perhaps she was intimidated or promised something,” she said.

According to the woman, as of now, Anastasia Berezovska’s body has not yet been handed over to the family, but this is expected to happen by July 11.

On June 29, a powerful explosion occurred in a residential building in Monaco, injuring businessman Vadim Yermolayev, his partner, and his son.

Following the incident, Interpol issued an international arrest warrant for 39-year-old Ukrainian Anastasia Berezovskaya, who was suspected of involvement in the explosion.

Later, Berezovska’s body was found near Kyiv, and the Security Service of Ukraine confirmed her death.

According to the investigation, after returning to Ukraine, the woman had contact with two men—a former law enforcement officer and a current employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

Both suspects have already been notified of their status as suspects in the intentional murder. According to the prosecutor’s office, one of them admitted his involvement in the crime and, during a reenactment, helped identify the location where the victim’s body had been hidden.

As a reminder, a hearing has begun at the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv to determine a pretrial detention measure for Vitaliy Zhikovych—the second suspect in the case of the murder of Anastasia Berezovskaya.

In Kyiv, a court is determining a pretrial measure for a suspect in the murder of Anastasia Berezovskaya.
