Ukraine Will Create a Pilot System of Underground Fuel Storage Facilities

The government has launched a pilot project to create an extensive network of underground storage facilities for fuel.

This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal. According to him, the initiative’s main priority is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of diesel fuel, primarily for defense and critical infrastructure needs.

Currently, Ukraine’s fuel market remains stable and balanced, and available resources are sufficient to meet current consumption levels. In addition, the government is working to build up reserves and expand fuel supply routes, particularly rail and river transport through Romania.

Earlier, Shmyhal reported that over the past six months, Russian forces have attacked or destroyed more than 300 gas stations in Ukraine.

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated on August 21 that Ukraine is not currently implementing planned power outages, and the power grid is operating stably. However, the situation may change depending on the intensity of Russian attacks on energy facilities.
