Azarov revealed the identity of the politician who is saving the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine
Mykola Azarov, who served as prime minister under Viktor Yanukovych and is currently in hiding in Russia, has stated that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is now obstructing the process of winding down the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The former Ukrainian official voiced this latest claim, which aligns with Russian narratives, in an interview with media outlets in the aggressor country.
The former head of the Cabinet of Ministers is attempting to convince the audience that high-ranking American officials are forcing the Ukrainian leadership to change its religious policy.
As Azarov claims in his comments to Russian propagandists, a process aimed at eliminating the UOC-MP is underway in Ukraine.
“U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and some members of Congress have begun to pay quite a lot of attention to this. There is a certain amount of pressure on the Kyiv authorities so that they do not act so boorishly,” he says.
According to the defector, official Kyiv is forced to adapt to external criticism, although its internal motives remain unchanged.
According to the former head of government, the Ukrainian authorities’ attitude toward the UOC-MP has not actually changed.
At the same time, Kyiv has allegedly begun to act more cautiously against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate due to “pressure” from the U.S. As usual, the former official provided no concrete evidence to back up his claims.
American politician J.D. Vance, who currently serves as vice president in the administration led by U.S. President Donald Trump, is indeed known for his controversial statements.
It is worth noting that J.D. Vance has repeatedly spoken out in defense of the UOC-MP.
In April 2024, in the U.S. Senate, he publicly criticized the Ukrainian government over a bill to ban religious organizations linked to Russia.
