Belarus will not go to war with Ukraine, says Pivnenko

Belarus will not participate in the war against Ukraine, and a repeat of the rapid advance of Russian troops from Belarusian territory, as occurred in 2022, is unlikely.

This was stated by the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, in an interview with the publication “Livyi Bereg.”

“I don’t believe in that at all (a potential offensive from Belarus). The Belarusians won’t fight against us. As for the Russians—I can say that we’re keeping a close eye on everything. There won’t be a repeat of what happened in 2022, when they managed to pin down our forces at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Right now, there are significant units with powerful drone capabilities in those areas. We see everything. Even with the help of reconnaissance and sabotage groups, the enemy can’t really do anything,” Pivnenko emphasized.

He added that similar attempts were recorded in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, but the situation was stabilized.

“One thing is clear: the Russians currently lack the forces to capture the Sumy region. They committed all their forces to Pokrovsk and the Donetsk region, thinking they could push us back. They didn’t! The same goes for the Zaporizhzhia sector. They tried to attack, but Airborne Forces units were able to neutralize them,” the commander noted.

As a reminder, Belarus has established a joint border control post with Russia, meaning that Russians who are banned from leaving the country are no longer allowed to cross the border.

Additionally, Russia may have instructed Belarus to keep Ukrainian forces “on edge” ahead of new attacks in the east and south. This is according to the Center for Countering Disinformation. Meanwhile, Ukraine is observing troop activity and the preparation of positions near the border.

The situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border remains stable: currently, there is no sign of additional equipment being deployed or an increase in troop numbers on the Belarusian side.
