Bolt will change its rules for drivers following the accident at Karavaevy Dachi

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who drove into an underpass in the Karavaevy Dachi neighborhood of Kyiv, was on a Bolt ride-hailing trip and transporting a passenger at the time of the accident

The service noted that the driver had active access to the platform at the time of the incident. 

Once the circumstances of the incident became known, his account was permanently suspended.

“We are as shocked by this terrible tragedy as the public is,” reads a statement from Bolt.

The company reported that it is in contact with the passenger who was in the car during the accident and is coordinating the provision of necessary assistance to her. Bolt is also cooperating with law enforcement agencies as part of the investigation.

Following the incident, the service announced a review of its internal procedures for responding to reports of dangerous driver behavior.

In particular, Bolt emphasized that drivers will be permanently banned after at least two complaints of speeding or dangerous driving. The company urges passengers to report any traffic violations or risky driver behavior during rides via the app or customer support.

The company also noted that it is in talks with government agencies to create a mechanism that will allow platforms to receive up-to-date information about drivers to improve transportation safety.

On June 5, a major traffic accident occurred in Kyiv, resulting in four deaths and three injuries. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Vadym Hetman and Ushynsky Streets near Karavaevy Dachi. Two young police officers were killed in this accident.
