In Volyn, the exhumation in Volya Ostrovetska has been completed
Exhumation work has been completed on the site of the former village of Volya Ostrovetska in the Volyn region. Experts have uncovered the remains of 48 people who died during World War II.
This was reported by Sviatoslav Sheremeta, executive secretary of the State Interagency Commission on Commemoration and head of the “Dolia” Memorial and Search Center.
According to him, the research was conducted by Ukrainian and Polish experts on the site of the former settlement, located near the village of Rivne in the Rivne community of the Kovel District.
“Ukrainian and Polish experts have completed exhumation work in the former village of Volya Ostrovetska and exhumed the remains of 48 people,” Sheremeta noted.
He added that search operations will resume as early as Monday in the former village of Ostrivky in Volhynia. There, during investigations in April of this year, the remains of people who died during World War II were also discovered.

Starting July 13, a new phase of exhumation work will begin in the former villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska in the Volyn region. The work will be conducted to locate, identify, and subsequently reburial the remains of local residents who died during the tragic events of August 1943.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reported on private consultations with Ukraine regarding the possible naming of one of the Special Operations Forces (SSO) units “Heroes of the UPA.” According to him, this issue is being discussed through diplomatic channels.
