The British city of Hereford has established a sister-city relationship with Zhytomyr
The Zhytomyr City Council signed an agreement establishing a sister-city relationship with the British city of Hereford during its regular session. This was reported by
City Council Secretary Halyna Shymanska emphasized that this status provides for the development of active ties between communities and the exchange of best practices in local governance.
The document lays the foundation for promoting shared cultural heritage, supporting youth exchanges, and fostering mutual interests in business and tourism. The development of green energy and support for community infrastructure projects have been identified as separate priorities for cooperation. Hereford, the administrative center of Herefordshire with a population of about 50,000, has become a new strategic partner of the Ukrainian city.
Expanding the network of international contacts at the municipal level helps strengthen the resilience of Ukrainian cities amid Russia’s full-scale aggression. Such cooperation allows for the incorporation of foreign expertise to restore and modernize urban infrastructure. The signing of the agreement marked another step in deepening Ukrainian-British relations at the local government level.
Earlier, Chernihiv Mayor Vladyslav Atroshenko and Aachen Mayor Sibylle Koepfen signed documents establishing official sister-city relations between the cities.
The city of Dnipro signed a sister city agreement with Amarillo, Texas, in the United States.
On Sunday, April 23, Vinnytsia and the German city of Karlsruhe signed an agreement to become sister cities.
In Sviatohirsk (Donetsk Oblast), memorandums of twinning were signed between the cities of the liberated communities of Donetsk Oblast and the U.S. state of Connecticut.
