Latvia will provide Ukraine with additional CVR(T) armored vehicles

Latvia has decided to provide Ukraine with additional CVR(T)-type armored combat vehicles.

This was announced by Foreign Minister Baiba Braze.

According to her, Latvia’s military aid to Ukraine in 2025 amounted to 0.3% of GDP, and Riga will continue to support Kyiv to strengthen its position on the battlefield and bring peace closer.

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds noted that in 2026, the level of aid to Ukraine will amount to 0.25% of GDP. He emphasized that support will continue “for as long as necessary,” and that the transfer of equipment will not affect the country’s defense capabilities.

The CVR(T) is a family of British tracked combat vehicles developed in the 1960s. They are known for their high speed and maneuverability and have been used in a number of conflicts, including the Falklands War, the Gulf Wars, and the war in Afghanistan.

This series includes various modifications, including the Scorpion and Scimitar light tanks, the Spartan armored personnel carrier, the Striker anti-tank system, and the Sultan command and staff vehicle. In total, over 3,500 such vehicles were produced.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed that the drone that flew in from Russian territory and crashed in Latvia belonged to Ukraine.

Earlier reports indicated that Latvia had detected a violation of its airspace by a foreign drone, which, according to preliminary data, had flown in from Russian territory.
