A British general has been appointed to lead the Multinational Forces for Ukraine
British Lieutenant General Tom Bateman has been appointed the new commander of the Multinational Forces for Ukraine, which the allies plan to deploy after the war ends to support the country’s security.
The British Ministry of Defense reported that Bateman has succeeded the French commander. The handover of command took place at the forces’ operational headquarters in Paris as the “Coalition of the Willing” prepares for joint exercises to rehearse the possible deployment of an international contingent in Ukraine.
According to Bateman, the Multinational Force will continue to cooperate with Ukraine and international partners to develop mechanisms for ensuring a just and lasting peace.
The British Ministry of Defense noted that the main tasks of these forces will be to support and train the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replenish weapons stocks, and contribute to security guarantees, in particular through patrolling air and maritime space after the end of hostilities.
