Sibiga warned of the risk of a price shock due to Russian attacks in the Black Sea
Andriy Sibiga, Ukraine’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea could trigger a sharp rise in global food prices and hit the poorest countries hardest.
According to him, the escalation of Russian terror poses a serious threat to global food security. The people of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America will be hardest hit by a potential price shock.
Sybiga called on the international community, particularly the countries in these regions, to demand that Russia cease its attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea. He also compared Moscow’s actions to the threats to global energy security posed by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, the world must act to prevent food from being used as a weapon of war.
