The death toll in Ukraine has risen due to severe weather
Three people have died as a result of the storm that has swept across Ukraine over the past 24 hours. Consequently, the death toll from the storm has risen.
This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on Telegram.
"Three people have died and seven others have been injured due to severe weather in Ukraine over the past 24 hours," the statement said.
The agency noted that rescue workers continue to deal with the aftermath of the squall winds across the country.
In total, over the past 24 hours, State Emergency Service units carried out 405 operations to cut up fallen trees and conduct restoration work in 21 regions.
A total of 1,810 rescuers and 423 pieces of equipment were involved in the operations. Restoration efforts are currently ongoing in five regions.
As Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko clarified, three people died as a result of the storm—in Zaporizhzhia, Zakarpattia, and Cherkasy regions.
Roofs of dozens of residential buildings and public facilities, educational institutions, and vehicles were damaged. The Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Kyiv regions were hit hardest.
Earlier, the storm left part of the Kyiv region without power.
The storm also left more than 178 settlements without power, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Adverse weather conditions have hit Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia: thousands of people are without power, and schools are closed.
